


If you get El Capitan, save a copy of the download to another drive. You can get that full installer for 10.11.6 (It's a free download!) through this link. It can be upgraded to OS X 10.11.6 (El Capitan), should you want to do that. You have a Mid 2009 MacBook (MacBook5,2 is the model identifier)

If you are NOW running 10.6.8 - do you want to upgrade to a newer version of OS X? Your plan should be to upgrade to a newer system - unless there is a compelling reason for you to stay with Snow Leopard (?) There's a lot of software that no longer supports Snow Leopard, and that might be why you are having problems installing recent applications. I apprecciate any help i can get, thanks!
